Who Am I?

January 1st, 2012

Ah, the age-old question. Who am I? Who am I really?

I am just a simple hard surface 3D modeler, animator, and all-around good guy. I work at an indie game studio called Lighthammer FX. I primarily work as an environment artist, but I often switch hats as an animator, sound designer, developer, and guinea pig.

I started out freelancing in motion graphics; mostly just After Effects work, but then started the dive into 3D with Cinema 4D. It wasn’t until I transitioned to Maya and then 3Ds Max, that I actually started modeling. Which was.. 9 months ago (March 2011) from the time I’m writing this (January 2012). Not bad really.

I find this all very peculiar. In school, I failed hard at every art class I ever took. Actually, if I’m being completely honest, I failed at most classes in school (this includes elementary school). I never went to college. Never considered myself to have any artistic bone in my body; I can’t free-hand draw to save my life, other than stick figures. Yet here I am, doing artisty things and making video games (can I get a “hell yeah”?).

I should point out that making video games is something my math teachers in high school told me I’d never be able to do, given my current math ability. My math ability doesn’t extend much past the ‘Learn To Count’ set my 4 year old nephew just got for Christmas. With most things having built-in calculator functions, there really is no need for me to learn that stuff. That being said, I do enjoy reading books on math theory.

Alright, now on to the non-colloquial portion of who I am. *ahem*
